Following his return from war, Francesco renounces all his worldly possessions to live an ascetic and simple life as a man of God and nature. Much to the dismay of his family, friends and the local bishop, he gradually gains a large following amongst the poor and the suffering.
The film contrasts Francis's innocence, piety and virtue with the bloated pomp of official Roman Catholic Church doctrine, which is depicted as being weighed down by internal politics, corruption and hypocrisy. Much of Brother Sun Sister Moon was filmed in locations and buildings frequented by the real-life Francis of Assisi.
The film derives much of its strength from Faulkner's performance as the young, battle-scarred nobleman laid low by his wartime experiences, who emerges from the horrors of conflict with a completely new and spiritual outlook on life. Emotions are released into a climax of peace, love and understanding. It is possible to draw parallels between this film and Vietnam war veterans, who in struggling for identity, truth and meaning on returning from conflict in the 60's and early 70's found God at their lowest point in life.

In the two stories included in Follow Your Dreams, Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty and Princess Jasmine from Aladdin discover that they must work hard and believe in their abilities if they are to reach the goals they've set for themselves. When Princess Aurora is put in charge of the kingdom for the day, the workload proves impossibly huge and the villagers' many problems seem too difficult for her to solve. Resorting to some magical help from the fairy Merryweather seems like the perfect answer, but in the end Princess Aurora's own hard work and ingenuity prove far more effective than magic. When Princess Jasmine yearns for something important to do with her life, her father gives her a position in the local school, but it proves much more challenging than she ever could have imagined. Add in an escaped wild horse and the prospect of letting her father down and Princess Jasmine feels overwhelmed and ready to give up. Can perseverance and hard work help Princess Jasmine realize her dreams? This nicely animated presentation features two favorite Disney Princesses, lots of new songs, and great messages about the value of self-confidence, hard work, and perseverance

Many will complain about John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen aka the Flash, but I liked him. Amanda Pays was an additional bonus, who I had held a crush for since her earlier days on the equally short lived “Max Headroom”. Although he was just as silly as the “Lois & Clark” villains would eventually be, I can’t help but mention Mark Hamil’s two episode stint as The Trickster, a role that set Hamil up perfectly to become the voice of the Joker in the animated world.
The show suffered from the same budgetary constraints as the other shows I’ve talked about so far, with the added problem of being about a super hero that just wasn’t as popular as Batman or Superman. The Flash himself was well known, but he didn’t have anywhere near the rogues gallery, making familiarity with the Central City character a problem. Add on top of that the running gag of two befuddled police officers who constantly argued about the existence of The Flash and you have weak script idea after weak script idea. The show managed to survive an entire season (more than it’s “Birds of Prey” successor) most likely due to its Danny Elfman theme song, playing on audience familiarity with the Batman theme of the time.

First published by Dell Comics in 1954, the story of a Native American fighting dinosaurs was a huge hit as the popularity of superheroes started to wane. Many years later, the character was revived by Valiant Comics, re-imagined as a hunter of bionic dinosaurs. When Acclaim Entertainment bought Valiant, Turok became the star of their best-selling video game franchise.
In 2008, Turok - Son of Stone has been re-imagined yet again, this time as the star of an animated movie. With a screenplay by Tony Bedard, a long-time Turok fan and writer of the Valiant series, this version of Turok hews a little closer to the original. The high-tech equipment and bionosaurs of the more recent comics and video games have been jettisoned in favor of a more classic and respectful approach to the character.
The story begins when Turok, his brother Nashoba, and female companion Catori are ambushed in the forest by members of a rival tribe. In a rage, Turock slaughters their attackers and nearly kills his own brother. Turok is banished to a desolate wilderness for his transgressions.
Fast-forward to sixteen years later, and Chichak, the son of one of the men Turok killed so many years ago, has risen to prominence in his tribe. They have returned to slaughter the members of Turok’s former village. The only survivors are Catori, whom Chichak kidnaps, and Andar, the son of Catori and Nashoba. Vowing revenge for the murders of his brother and his tribesmen, Turok and Andar give chase to Chichak and wind up in the Lost Land, a savage world inhabited by dinosaurs and cavemen. Once there, Chichak finds a tribe of vicious Neanderthals to lead, while Turok, Andar, and Catori are taken in by a group of Native Americans very similar to their own tribe. As Turok and Chichak prepare to do battle, Turok must learn to accept the darkness within his soul, and his destiny as a warrior.
Turok - Son of Stone proves that with the right people in charge, a character can be re-imagined and reinvented for a new generation of fans. Building on the classic idea of a man trapped in a lost world that time has forgotten, this story adds more depth to the character of Turok, choosing to put the focus on the man, rather than the beasts. Turok and Chichak are presented as two sides of a coin. Both are proud warriors: one seeking revenge for the murder of his father, the other for the murder of his brother. The only difference between the two is that while Turok has a great respect for life, Chichak is a ruthless killer.
The story in this film is intelligent and aimed at an adult audience, and it should be noted that this is not a children’s movie. There is a warning on the package concerning graphic violence, and it should definitely be heeded. This movie contains lots of blood, along with a few beheadings and severed limbs. It’s probably okay for older kids, but parents who are concerned about such things might want to preview it first.
Extras on the DVD include a director’s commentary, and “Total Turok”, a short but in-depth look at the history of the character and the making of the film. An interesting aspect of this documentary is the attention to detail the filmmakers paid to Native American history. They made great attempts to ensure that the weaponry, clothing, and way of life shown in this film were authentic and respectful. It’s definitely worth checking out after viewing the movie.
Turok - Son of Stone was a movie that served as a great introduction for new fans, and a great retelling of a story that old-time fans have known and loved for years. I highly recommend it to both

Billy Crystal and John Goodman make a fiercely funny comedic team as job partners and best friends, Mike (Crystal)--a little green guy with one huge eyeball, and Sulley (Goodman)--a big purple and blue fuzzy guy with dinosaur spikes down his back. Mike and Sully work at MONSTERS, INC., a gigantic corporation that captures the screams of little children and turns them into energy. To make the children scream, the monsters must enter each child's bedroom through the closet door, then deliver a frightening affront. The only problem is, kids aren't scared anymore. And because of this problem, Monsters, Inc. is in a jam. But when one little girl, Boo (Mary Gibbs), follows Sully through her closet door and into the factory, she brings an even more dire issue to the fore: the monsters are actually terrified of children. From Pixar Animation Studios, MONSTERS, INC. is an exciting adventure with a sweet, happy ending.
Both the DVD and VHS releases include the animated short FOR THE BIRDS and a home video exclusive performance of "Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me" created by Mike Wazowski.
