Red Dragon online
With the exception perhaps of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho', 'Silence of the Lambs' - in which FBI agent Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) must consult psychotic psychiatrist Hannibal ('the Cannibal') Lecter from his maximum security cell in her pursuit of another serial killer - is the most popular and most famous psycho-thriller ever put on screen, and has transformed Anthony Hopkins, who plays Lecter, into a Hollywood mainplayer, a knight of the realm, and a spokesperson for Barclays Bank (which apparently sees no irony in being associated with a ruthless, arrogant maneater). This is not to say that the film was without flaws. So intense and mesmerising were the scenes between Starling and Lecter - essentially a subplot in the film - that the main plot, when it came, was little more than a limp, forgettable appendage.
In the sequel, 'Hannibal', Sir Anthony reprised his role with gusto, although Foster had lost her appetite for the affair and was replaced by Julianne Moore. The film had its tasty bits, but it quickly became clear that Lecter is a far more compelling character when he wields his malign influence from behind bars - once unconfined, he seemed as much of a ham as the trained killer pigs that pursue him in the film.
'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Hannibal' were screen adaptations of the second and third novels in Thomas Harris' Hannibal trilogy - and in the wake of their box-office success, Hollywood has decided to exercise the prequel option by going back to the first novel in the trilogy, 'Red Dragon'. In a way, this film represents all of the good things about its predecessors, with none of the bad. In a brief prologue, we see how Lecter (Anthony Hopkins again) was first outwitted and apprehended by Special Agent Will Graham (Edward Norton). Some time later, Graham has recovered from his injuries and retired to live with his wife and son, but is persuaded to take 'one last case', involving a serial killer dubbed 'the Toothfairy' who carries out ritualistic slaughters of families every full moon. At an impasse, Graham is forced to consult Lecter behind bars, just like Starling did before (or, technically, after) him. Again we are treated to magnetic scenes involving mind games and manipulation, only this time with the added bonus that Lecter bears a genuine grudge against his interlocutor and is out for revenge. Even better, this time the killer is a flesh-and-bones character rather than a grunting cipher, and his storyline is well developed and engaging in its own right.
Director Brett Ratner has assembled an impressive cast, including Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. There are enough canny references to the 'previous' two films to keep any fan of the series happy, including the sight of Lecter already making a meal of his hopelessly inadequate nemesis from 'Silence of the Lambs', Dr Chiltern (again played by Anthony Heald). In a way, however, this is precisely the film's problem: like so many sequels, it is burdened by its own history. Too many of its scenes are second takes (albeit improved ones) of elements that are all too familiar from the other films. Besides, 'Red Dragon' is itself in effect a remake of Michael Mann's much overlooked 'Manhunter' (1986), which, despite all its cloying, 'Miami Vice'-style slickness, is still sufficiently similar to Ratner's film to make you wonder why Ratner has bothered. 'Red Dragon' is good - in fact, probably much better than all its predecessors - I only wish that it had been the first, rather than the last, in the series.

Following the arrival of Sheriff Harry S. Truman, his deputies, and Dr. Will Hayward on the scene, the body is discovered to be that of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, the most popular girl at the local high school. The news spreads among the town's residents, particularly Laura's family and friends. Meanwhile, just across the state line, a second girl, Ronette Pulaski, is found walking along the railroad tracks in a fugue state. Since Ronette was discovered across the state line, FBI Agent Dale Cooper is called in to investigate. Cooper's initial examination of Laura's body reveals a tiny typed letter 'R' inserted under her fingernail. He recognizes this as the "calling card" of a killer who took the life of Teresa Banks a year earlier in a town located "in the southwest corner of the state" (revealed in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me to be Deer Meadow). Cooper quickly establishes that Laura's character and relationships are not as they first appear, and that she's far from the wholesome homecoming queen that those closest to her believed her to be. It is revealed that Laura was two-timing her boyfriend Bobby Briggs with sullen biker James Hurley, a fact known to Laura's best friend Donna Hayward. Cooper also finds traces of cocaine in Laura's diary, indicating a drug habit she shared with Bobby. Meanwhile, Donna and James begin an investigation of their own into Laura's death, and find themselves embarking on a romantic relationship with each other...

When he singlehandedly saves the life of General Sir Arthur Wellesley (David Troughton in the first two films, then Hugh Fraser) from a group of French cavalrymen, Wellesley gives Sharpe a battlefield commission, promoting him to lieutenant. Sharpe is placed in charge of a detachment of the 95th Rifles - a group of elite riflemen ("chosen men"), among them Sergeant Patrick Harper (Daragh O'Malley), who eventually becomes his best friend.
Wellesley and his various spymasters, first Major Michael Hogan (Brian Cox), followed by Major Nairn (Michael Byrne), Major Mungo Monroe (Hugh Ross) and later Major General Ross (James Laurenson), find Sharpe to be an extremely capable and cunning officer and give him progressively more important tasks. Despite their backing, he has to fight against the strong prejudice of aristocrats (who often owe their army positions to money and social connections rather than military skill) against an uncouth commoner raised from the ranks. He makes a number of dangerous enemies, such as French Major Pierre Ducos (F¨¦odor Atkine) and Colonel Sir Henry Simmerson (Michael Cochrane), and encounters one from his prior service in India, Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill (Pete Postlethwaite). However, Sharpe's successes gain him steady promotion. By the end of the Napoleonic Wars, at the Battle of Waterloo, he is Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe.
Along the way, Sharpe has a number of romances. During the course of the series, he marries first the Spanish guerrilla leader Teresa Moreno (Assumpta Serna), with whom he has a daughter, and then Jane Gibbons (Abigail Cruttenden).

Many will complain about John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen aka the Flash, but I liked him. Amanda Pays was an additional bonus, who I had held a crush for since her earlier days on the equally short lived “Max Headroom”. Although he was just as silly as the “Lois & Clark” villains would eventually be, I can’t help but mention Mark Hamil’s two episode stint as The Trickster, a role that set Hamil up perfectly to become the voice of the Joker in the animated world.
The show suffered from the same budgetary constraints as the other shows I’ve talked about so far, with the added problem of being about a super hero that just wasn’t as popular as Batman or Superman. The Flash himself was well known, but he didn’t have anywhere near the rogues gallery, making familiarity with the Central City character a problem. Add on top of that the running gag of two befuddled police officers who constantly argued about the existence of The Flash and you have weak script idea after weak script idea. The show managed to survive an entire season (more than it’s “Birds of Prey” successor) most likely due to its Danny Elfman theme song, playing on audience familiarity with the Batman theme of the time.

They plan to commit the robbery during the much-anticipated Lennox Lewis versus Wladimir Klitschko boxing match. Since, in the film, the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) requires that casinos have money on hand for every chip being played, they estimate that during such a high-profile match, the vault should contain in excess of $150 million. The owner of the three casinos, Terry Benedict (Garcia), is the lover of Danny's ex-wife, Tess Ocean (Roberts). As the plot unfolds, it becomes apparent that one purpose of the heist is for Danny to win Tess back. The plan is financed by a wealthy former casino owner (and Benedict rival) Reuben Tishkoff (Gould).
The elaborate heist involves a number of interlocked distractions, cons and impostors. The Malloy twins, posing as hotel personnel, take a cart containing the "Amazing Yen," a Chinese acrobat and contortionist, who will infiltrate the vault room. Because accessing the vault requires thumb print identification, the two approach the security area and argue loudly about a swipe card; to silence them, another security guard offers to take the cart "of Benedict's money" in for them.
The security access codes, updated twice daily, are carried on Benedict's person. Linus (Damon), a skilled pickpocket, presents himself as a member of the NGC tracking down a blackjack dealer who is a felon (a plant named Frank Catton (Mac)), enabling Linus to get inside security, escorted by Benedict. A staged scuffle between Frank and Linus enables Linus to lift the codes. Frank is immediately fired, thus avoiding any future suspicion about his failure to appear at work after the robbery. Linus stays behind in security, saying he forgot his pager, as Benedict hurries off to the boxing match.
Saul Bloom (Reiner) poses as a mysterious Eastern European businessman who convinces Benedict to store some jewels in the vault for him. While overseeing the transfer, Saul stages a heart attack to distract the guards. Rusty (Pitt) and the Malloy twins, posing as medical personnel, pretend to attempt to revive him. While security is preoccupied with a "dying" Saul, Livingston overrides the security cameras with pre-recorded security footage of empty hallways and elevators, masking Linus's entry into an elevator shaft and all subsequent activity of the gang. Rusty pronounces Saul dead and he and the "EMTs" transport Saul's body out of the casino. En route, he signals Basher Tarr (Cheadle), a master of explosives, to detonate a fictional pinch to briefly shut off the power to the city. This allows Linus and Danny to rappel down the elevator shaft into the hallway outside the vault moments before the backup generators reactivate the laser sensors.
Danny and Linus, outside the vault, disable the two guards with a gas grenade. Yen, now in the vault, flips over the roving floor sensors (positioning himself near the door) and plants Saul's "jewels" (actually explosive charges) against the door's hinges. Danny plants detonators on the corresponding locations outside the vault and detonates them; the door is blown off its hinges. But not before a delay in which Yen gets his hand trapped in the hinges and the bomb fails to go off after the inital attempt to detonate.
Rusty (now back in the casino) calls Benedict on a cell phone (that Danny had planted on Tess), telling Benedict that he is being robbed of "around $160 million" — an amount that Benedict confirms. The video feed suddenly changes to that of a robbery taking place. Rusty states they will only be packing up around half of it, with the other half to remain booby trapped in the vault. Rusty demands that Benedict’s men load up half the money in a white van that will pull up in the valet station, or they will blow up both halves of the money. Benedict complies, but has his men follow the van and calls 911. A SWAT team arrives, and as they enter the vault area, they ask to have power shut off. Benedict agrees, and a sound of a firefight is heard through the radio, as well as an explosion. The power is switched on, and the SWAT team informs him the money has been blown up. Meanwhile, Benedict’s men manage to take the van, only to find that is being remotely operated (by Virgil Malloy) and that there is no money in the bags. Benedict heads down to the vault, where he tells the SWAT team to leave after seeing that the money there had been replaced with flyers, which had been blown up. It is then revealed that Ocean’s 11 had in fact gotten out with the money after all. When Benedict had called 911, Livingston had overridden it and answered pretending to be emergency response. The SWAT team was actually composed of the team members in disguise; while they were “infiltrating” the vault and had the power cut, they had instead been helping put the money in the bags and imitated the sounds of a firefight. The video of Danny, Yen, and Linus robbing the vault had in fact been previously recorded, as the team had constructed a duplicate of the vault. The crew, disguised as the SWAT team, then simply carried all $160 million out of the vault. Benedict realizes, too late, that the video of the robbery was staged when he notices the lack of the recently-installed Bellagio insignia on the floor in the surveillance video.
Danny (returning through the ceiling to a security room Benedict was holding him in) offers Benedict bogus assistance in recovering the money if Benedict will give up Tess; Benedict agrees. The group arranges for Tess to see a surveillance video of this. Disgusted, Tess leaves Benedict.
After the robbery, Danny is arrested for a parole violation and sent to prison for three to six months. On his release, he is met outside of the prison by Rusty, who has brought Tess in his car. They drive off, aware that Benedict's guards are following them

Republican Congressman Phil Hammersley (Jason Robards, uncredited) is trying to stop the bill because he believes it is an invasion of privacy, while Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight), is trying to push the bill through to advance his career. Hammersly is then killed near a lake by two rogue NSA agents loyal to Reynolds, who plant a bottle of heart medication near the body to make the death seem like a heart attack. However, a video camera set up by wildlife researcher Daniel Zavitz (Jason Lee) to monitor geese migration caught the entire incident.

When Zavitz views Hammersley's murder, he realizes that the news reports of a sudden heart attack are false. Zavitz is unaware that an NSA agent saw him retrieve the tape from the video camera. He copies the tape onto a computer cartridge, and when NSA agents arrive, he hides the tape in a TurboExpress and escapes. Tracked by satellite and pursued by NSA agents, Zavitz bumps into an old friend from Georgetown University, labor lawyer Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith) who is shopping for a gift for his wife.

Dean had just come from a meeting with mafia members who control a labor union he is representing. He had raised their ire by showing them a videotape of one of the mafia members consorting with union officials, in violation of his parole. The mafia threaten to kill Dean within a week if he does not give them the name of the source.

While Dean hands Zavitz his business card, Zavitz drops the cartridge with the murder footage into Dean's shopping bag and then flees. Pursued by NSA agents, Zavitz jumps onto a bike and rides down a busy street, where he is hit and killed by a firetruck. After finding Dean's business card on Zavitz' body, the agents visit Dean posing as metropolitan police. Unaware that Zavitz gave him the video, Dean tells them he has no knowledge of their allegations that he was passed "sensitive materials", even denying them access to his bags without a warrant.

The next day the NSA agents break into Dean's house looking for the tape. While they do not find it, they plant tracking bugs in his clothes and personal items. The NSA smears him with a false story about a love affair with Rachel Banks, an old girlfriend who acted as an intermediary between Dean and her contact, the source of the mafia tape. He is fired from his law firm and thrown out of the house by his wife. When he attempts to check into a hotel for the night, he learns his credit cards have been canceled and somebody has stolen his attache case. With Rachel's help, Dean meets her contact, retired NSA agent Brill (Gene Hackman), who shows him the bugs that have been planted in his belongings, and tells him the NSA is after him. After Dean finds out that Rachel had been killed by Reynold's team to frame him for murder, he and Brill make contact and finally discover that they possess the murder video - just minutes before it is destroyed in an attack by the NSA. Reynolds' team tracked them down after Dean made a phone call at a nearby convenience store.

While on the run, Brill reveals that he served as Rachel's contact because her late father was his partner prior to his retirement. Deciding to finish what they started, Dean and Brill use methods on Congressman Sam Albert (Stuart Wilson), similar to those used on Dean, to expose knowledge of the illegal NSA operation to the NSA's top brass to get Reynolds attention and arrange a meeting with him. Their plan is to incriminate Reynolds by recording his conversation with Brill about the conspiracy on tape, but it fails due to Dean's inexperience.

Dean and Brill are captured, and it is apparent that they will be killed to eliminate any witnesses. Dean turns the tables by claiming that the leader of the Pintero mafia family has the tape Reynolds is after. This leads the conspirators back to the Italian restaurant that Dean visited earlier in the movie, which he knows is under surveillance by the FBI. Dean then convinces Pintero that Reynolds is after the tape of his meeting with the union leaders. Reynolds believes that the tape in question is of the Hammersley murder. The situation quickly becomes a Mexican standoff between the agents and mobsters, and escalates into a firefight.

Dean and Brill are among the few survivors. Reynolds, nearly all of the rogue agents involved in the conspiracy, and most of the mobsters – including Pintero – are killed. The FBI sweeps in and the plot behind the legislation is soon exposed. The only two surviving conspirators, NSA technicians Fiedler (Jack Black) and Jamie (Jamie Kennedy) are taken into custody by the FBI. Dean is cleared of all charges and returns home with his wife, and Brill, who escapes to exile in a tropical locale, sends a friendly message to Dean via his television set
